What does Organic Certification mean?
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has developed a standard to certify the foods we eat as organic and identify those foods with the following label.

Organic food is produced by farmers who emphasize the use of renewable resources and the conservation of soil and water to enhance environmental quality for future generations. Organic meat, poultry, eggs, and dairy products come from animals that are given no antibiotics or growth hormones. Organic food is produced without using most conventional pesticides; fertilizers made with synthetic ingredients or sewage sludge; bioengineering; or ionizing radiation. Before a product can be labeled "organic," a Government-approved certifier inspects the farm where the food is grown to make sure the farmer is following all the rules necessary to meet USDA organic standards. Companies that handle or process organic food before it gets to your local supermarket or restaurant must be certified, too.
Are there different levels of Organic Certification?
Yes, there are four different categories. The categories are:
- "100 percent organic;"
- "Organic," defined by the USDA as containing 95% or more organic ingredients;
- "Made with organic," that includes products with at least 70% organic ingredients; and
- Products with less than 70% organic ingredients are only allowed to list the organic items in the ingredient panel on the side of the package.
How can we be sure of the certification?
The government has identified and approved a number of companies who serve as certification agents. The What You Do With Tofu!® sauces have been certified by a government approved organization called Quality Assurance International, which is why you see this logo on our label.

What does it mean to be "Certified Vegan"?
When you see this label it means that each product is strictly Vegan, containing no animal ingredients or animal by-products, using no animal ingredient or by-product in the manufacturing process, and not being tested on animals.
